High Beeches was a new house on the Wentworth Estate occupying a narrow site with heavy tree cover to the north. The client’s brief was for a contemporary house minimising the shortcomings of the site. The proposed multi-level house focused on the southerly aspect of the rear garden, with a basement study and an open-plan ground-floor family space.
The natural slope of the site was utilised to deliver natural light into the lower ground-floor, which looks over a basement courtyard. The circulation space weaved through the house and functioned as a light well, delivering light internally from above.
