Lewandowski Architects were shortlisted to provide designs and proposals for a new build library. A key aspect of the competition brief was also to consider how the adjacent existing assembly hall could be enlarged in the future and linked to the library. We approached the competition slightly differently by interrogating whether the library should actually be located within the existing assembly hall, reducing the proposed budget by almost 50%. We believed that the library was a better re-use of the existing assembly hall and that a new purpose-built assembly hall would provide greater, less compromised end results.
