About This Project

Sixth Form centre

Lewandowski Architects was shortlisted for a competition to develop the Sixth Form experience at St Mary’s School, Ascot by building a first-class, exciting and unique boarding house for the sixth form pupils. At the heart of the scheme was the interaction between pupils, through a flexible breakout core that explored the idea of bringing the outside into the building.

Talking with the pupils we saw an opportunity to link the natural progression to university with the Sixth Form centre. The proposal sought to retain existing views for boarding houses that overlooked the school’s playing fields by introducing a semi-subterranean building with an expansive sedum green roof that would blend the boundaries between it and the school’s grounds.
