The project consisted of the demolition of an existing bungalow and detached garage on the riverside site to enable the construction of a new, contemporary dwelling. A key part of the client’s brief was the need to provide protection from flooding. The existing house was subject to floor damage only a few years prior to our commission and the client was therefore insistent that the new design be ‘flood proof’.
We designed a three- bedroom family home which combined contemporary architecture with efficient detailing, well-considered material selection and an environmentally responsive strategy.
A clean and crisp external appearance was desired by the client and a material palette of white render, western red cedar cladding and floor-to-ceiling glazing was selected to achieve this.
